About WBQA

MISSION STATEMENT & ABOUT WBQA

The World Barbecue Association WBQA is a sports organisation founded in Januari 1996 by Rolf Zubler in Switzerland with the aim to unite all countries worldwide through barbecue that is safe, healthy and social, including the public at large. BBQ is for everyone from backyard enthusiast to professional chefs enjoying the skill whilst celebrating the art of outdoor cooking with the culinary & cultural differences of every country and promote each unique style of BBQ cooking and presentation. Initially a volunteering organisation, WBQA has since become an international organisation with Head Office and World BBQ Academy in Limerick, Ireland.

Annually around 25 National BBQ championships on 3 continents: Europe, Africa, Latin America

First World Championship was held in 1999 with 70 teams competing for the title.

WHAT WE DO

Give support so that the activities are safe, healthy and binding with the local authorities
Keep members informed (local, national, continental, world championships, rules and regulations)
Sanction and federate national and international competitions.
Provide official world results of all events.
Ensure that the local community is incorporated into the events.
Coordinate with the media for a correct promotion of the world of BBQ
If informed, announce BBQ events & results through the available channels.
WBQA take part of the responsibility during Continental & World Championships for ensuring incorporation of:

- Rules & Regulations
- Code of Conduct
- Judging process & procedures
- WHO & HACCP Hygiene & Safety Rules
- WBQA key personnel in attendance

WBQA LICENSED CHAMPIONSHIPS

There are National Championships, Continental Championships, Intercontinental Championships and World Championships competing in 6 Mandatory Categories and a variety of Optional Categories. The categories are designed to show the skills & art of BBQ.
