Shamakhi, Azerbaijan – Wim Vink, CEO of the World Barbecue Association and owner of Barbecueplein.nl, attended the International Barbecue Festival in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan.
The event brought together chefs, grill masters, and barbecue experts from more than thirty countries, including Russia, Israel, Ukraine, Italy, and Georgia. Despite political tensions between some countries, the participants stood side by side behind the fire, a powerful symbol of connection and mutual respect.
“Barbecue is more than cooking; it is a universal language that connects people,” so Wim Vink: “In Shamakhi, you saw how fire transcends borders. While Russia and Ukraine are at odds, their chefs grilled together, laughing, and learning from each other. That is precisely what the World Barbecue Association stands for: Fire, Food, Friendship & Fun, and that was beautifully expressed at this international festival in Azerbaijan organized by Don David, a well-known figure in the Eastern countries.
The festival was supported by local Azerbaijani organizations and attracted considerable international attention. With the participation of the World Barbecue Association, the event emphasized the power of barbecue as a cultural and culinary heritage, and as a means of connecting people and cultures worldwide.
